What would be the perfect belay device for you?
Can't rappel on double ropes with a grigri or pilot or mamumut smart or click-up. Belaying from the top sucks with a neox. I used an ATC for awhile but lowering from above is way harder. I also used the gigajul for a bit but was a little rough with thicker ropes

That is a fair assessment. Ascending the rope or hauling a climber under tension is arguably the scenario where the GriGri's mechanical advantage is most apparent.
