Click Up

Can't rappel on double ropes with a grigri or pilot or mamumut smart or click-up. Belaying from the top sucks with a neox. I used an ATC for awhile but lowering from above is way harder. I also used the gigajul for a bit but was a little rough with thicker ropes

Can’t recommend the climbing technology click up enough, used it the last year for indoor aswell as sport and trad, great for top roping and lead climbing, catching with it is great, personally it’s my go to, always take a click up and an atc, but generally will reach for the click up.

gigajul is awesome but not with gym topropes, which are a bit much for it. belay devices are tools designed to match a job, not a single one size fits all thing. You want something to learn to belay indoors on, that is probably any regular toothed belay device, or an assisted device. The regular too

I often switch my hand when belaying so can do left or right. I have a petzl reverso- but any tube device is good for either hand. For an auto locking device I use a click up. It’s effectively the same action as the tube devices and isn’t handed for left or right.

Just seems like they were designed to change the game, and to try to become the new standard, since the community has been stuck on the grigri for going on three decades. Problem with that is the game doesn't need to be changed, anything the grigri needed petzl came along and changed in the next ite

I know what you mean, some devices have more active assisted braking like the GriGri and others are more passive. That sucks, it definitely seems like a lot of indoor centres are heading in that direction which is frustrating because I've been belaying with an ATC for years, it's what those same cen

Like some others said, just use whatever you are comfortable with. I, for example, never liked the GriGri. I used to use an ATC, but then switched to the Click Up years ago. Once gotten used to, it feels almost like an ATC. Not saying that you are supposed to get that one, just saying that there are
