a mirrorless camera... along with your old EF-S lens.... and an EF to M adapter will not be compact! i don't think you have enough of a budget for an m50 and a decent ef-m lens if u invest in an M camera get one of the later ones: M50, M50 mk II, M200 or M6 Mk II if u really want to go with the M50

Canon stopped making cameras in that ecosystem nothing else they make will be as small as an m series camera. the M200 is about the same size as the M3 and its a bit newer....
