Mixing/ Mastering Headphones that can surpass Studio Monitors?

Different tools for different purposes... Good headphones can let you more clearly hear minute details like the endings of reverb tails, everything that happens in the sub region, but headphones are inherently dual mono audio so they'll struggle in the stereo field and they can't really let you feel

Headset Hunting is laborious & relentless

I strongly suggest you to go to a place where you can try some headphones. Bring your reference tracks, get some of the recommended headphones and listen. Take your own conclusions. Headphones are quite personal in terms of what you’ll feel comfortable working with, beyond the sound there’s the weig

$200 and $3 dac sound the same

The important factor is that that person probably wasn't strictly talking about IEMs, which are super low impedance and highly sensitive. If we are talking about over the ear headphones, those do actually benefit from something other than a cheap DAC that also has an AMP in it, in fact, it's kind of

DT770’s have poor low end?

I have the 250 ohm version. I use them for tracking and spot checking, but I'd never even consider mixing with them -- I use audeze MM-500 for that. Yes, the low end is a bit unreliable if you were to mix with them.

Getting rid of my ATCs and would like advice on my next setup

I saw this comment recently saying "[the Audeze] MM-500 is the closest thing I heard to some ATC speakers if you ever had the chance to work on them, the transients representation is top notch" and ever since then they've been on my list I just don't need 10k speakers in my apartment lmao lol it's a

bavarian has no idea of why it sounds the same

no headphones are as good as high quality speakers My Audeze MM500's beg to differ. They're better than my $25k monitors.

is it okay to put eq on the master just for the monitoring?

I would say that if you are aware of the acoustics of your room, then you are already halfway there. The other half is working by making decisions that take those acoustics into account. If you get better results with your EQ, great. Please note, however, that in your case, it would be better to wor

Advice / Guidance on Headphones for mixing

I used audio technica r70x for 3 years (with sonarworks) and now I use an Audeze MM-500, which is an amazing piece of gear. My studio is equipped with focal SM9 and a trinnov for correction, but I still prefer using the headphones most of the time

HD600 to HD800 - good upgrade or something else?

HD800 is a vastly different headphone from HD600. It also won’t fix your problem with bass extension as HD800 bass is also its biggest weakness. What you will get from HD800 is an extremely wide presentation with much brighter treble. It will make everything sound wide, even when u might not want it
