New forced contract on ASUS router - give us all your personal information
I just checked SNBforums and found no one else mentioning it. I wouldn’t worry about it. You may want to consider upgrading to Merlin. It tends to be better performing firmware than ASUS official firmware, IMO. All that being said, I’ve been disappointed in my RT-BE86U since I replaced my dying RT-A

Any good basic just.. “good router” I can buy?
How much area do you need to reach with wifi? You should probably think about getting a WiFi 6 or Wifi 7 router at this time to be ready for the net generation of devices. I like the ASUS routers as their web interface is really easy to use and they include a lot of nice admin features if you care a

New forced contract on ASUS router - give us all your personal information
No such pop-ups on my two RT-BE86U units; also mine have been rock-solid since installing them last November.

New customers...so far so good
Here are the options: Best: Two mesh wifi routers with Ethernet cable between them. Better: Two mesh wifi routers (no cable) Good: one higher end router (more coverage) I prefer Asus routers like BE86U but many people will recommend TP Link ones. Alternatively, you try if beacon 6 good enough.

Questions about Router options and features
Yes, other routers have much more functionality than yours. I use Asus routers with Asuswrt-Merlin, and it's incredibly powerful. I can set up three "guest networks" each for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I have one set up for cameras and IoT devices - they can reach my Home Assistant server and DVR, but they ca

ASUS RT-AX86U Pro sold out everywhere -- BE6800 comparable? Other options?
Assuming that's the Asus RT-BE86U for $15 more, it's the direct replacement and improved in literally every way, you'd be silly not go just go straight to the BE device, even if you never end up using Wi-Fi 7 on it.

Cat6/ethernet in New Build?
Apart from ethernet cables, it is also important to use a proper router, such as Asus RT-AX86U (wifi-6) or Asus RT-BE86U (wifi-7).Not the cheap crap like the Vodafone Gigabollox, that can only do 5GHz.Or the out-dated Fritz!Box stuff from the likes of Digiweb and PureTelecom.

New router recommendations and understanding wifi 7
I have the Asus RT-BE86U and it is great! 10 metres from the router, I can get speeds of up to 1.6 Gbps. It also an easy to use management interface with just about everything you need.

Mesh-system recommendations
I would recommend two Asus BE86U routers. It is dual band wifi 7.
