New forced contract on ASUS router - give us all your personal information
Bad advice. Asus routers are actually amazing products, and enhancing it with merlin firmware make it the best routers you can buy, in my humble opinion. I've only ever had 2 Asus routers, one i bought in 2013 (AC68U), which lasted until they discontinued it in March 2024. And I bought the replaceme

New forced contract on ASUS router - give us all your personal information
I have an RT-AX86U Pro with Merlin firmware - https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/ - haven't gotten any type of pop up like that. Currently running 3.0.0.6.102_7_0 Merlin takes the existing firmware and gives it amazing tweaks. Super easy to flash. Been running Merlin firmware for over a decade with my oth

Looking for recommendations on a DIY router that can run OpenVPN, Pi‑hole, and per‑device/site controls
I would agree with others that building your own may be the only way to truly give you everything you want. As a suggestion though, for a pretty complete package and basically all of what you’re asking for, I’d look into the “Merlin” ASUS router firmware. It’s a fork of the official AsusWRT firmware

Questions about Router options and features
Yes, other routers have much more functionality than yours. I use Asus routers with Asuswrt-Merlin, and it's incredibly powerful. I can set up three "guest networks" each for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. I have one set up for cameras and IoT devices - they can reach my Home Assistant server and DVR, but they ca

Good home router's with long term security support?
I have had the ASUS 86U routers for more than a decade. I’d still be using the first one if it wasn’t for lightning. The replacement router an RT-AX86U Pro has been in operation for a couple of years now and I use Asuswrt-Merlin firmware rather than ASUS. Asuswrt-Merlin updates firmware components m

Asus mesh two BE92U or one BE92Uwith a TUF BE9400 as node?
Why not start with the AX86U along with whatever ASUS you buy next? Ai MESH will still work. Additionally 86U and 92U are Merlin compatible. I wouldn't worry about one being WiFi 6 and other WiFi 7. The bandwidth advantage of 7 doesn't last very long or work too reliably. And if it did you are often

ASUS RT-BE92U 1 Year On
Not a long term review, but I replaced a TP BE550 with the RT-BE92U two weeks ago. I installed Merlin right away because I had a good experience with it on AX86U. I had issues with the WAN port auto-negotiated the port speed every hour which led to frequent drops (Telus Fiber ONT 10G port > BE92U 2.

Router question
https://asuswrt-merlin.net/about The RT-AX86U-Pro or better that is listed on that site. You don't need to run the Merlin firmware, but Asus tends to support the models he supports for longer then other ones. UniFI doesn't support the not great IPv6 6RD tunnel, if you NEED IPv6. We might get native

Considering Flint 3 or Asus 86u pro
I have RT-AX86U pro on 1gig with no connectivity or overheating issues 3yrs solid. Their default firmware ui is pretty simple to navigate with. I run a custom firmware called asuswrt-merlin that adds automated scripts and better traffic monitoring among other things while retaining the vanilla ui. I

Asus RT-AC68U replacement needed?
With Black Friday I would upgrade to a newer ASUS. I had an AC86U which performed extremely well for me until a near lightning strike took it out (EMP). Replaced with an AX86U Pro another well performing router. I use Merlin firmware on both.
