Apple unleashes M5, the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon

Base config on the M5 MacBook Pro is still 16GB RAM. With all the stuff running in the background, they should have bumped base RAM up to at least 24GB. My M1 Pro with 16GB needs to use swap to handle stuff. But it will probably be another 10 years before Apple increases base RAM across the lineup.

Here's How Much Faster MacBook Air Gets With M5 Chip vs. M4 Chip

It’s amazing how far Apple has moved me down the chip line. I started using Macs on a Power Mac G5 dual 1.8Ghz in 2004. At the time? That was just sort of expected if you were serious about photo or video. That G5 became a Core2Duo 24” iMac around 2008, which led to a 27” i7 iMac around 2013 which b

5K Monitor Owners: Much difference between 4K and 5K 27-inch displays?

5K 2019 iMac —> MacBook Pro M1 Pro + LG 5K Ultrafine 27” Then used 4K 32” at work and realised it was fine. Then moved and sold the 5K. Was planning to buy again or buy Studio Display. Bought LG 4K 27 Ultrafine to use with my MBP M3 Max as a placeholder for the first few weeks. Realised that I didn’

MacBook Neo review: Apple puts every $600 Windows PC to shame

My work issued Lenovo is worse in every way compared to my M1 Pro 14 inch MacBook and cost just as much. I work in IT and could easily do my job on the Neo, I wish I could convince the higher ups to let us use MacBooks.... Would save us a ton of money in the long run.

New Mr Macintosh Video about new Sequoia 15.7.8 and Sonoma 14.8.8

To be honest, Tahoe was horrible on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro, whereas Golden Gate beta works great by comparison. The point is I can only imagine that Tahoe would be super horrible on legacy Intel Macs. In other words, we really should consider Sequoia as the end of the road for OCLP.

Apple not highlighting Final Cut Pro in new MacBook Pro announcement - instead displaying Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve

Here's a logical reason - it's not impressive for a new MacBook Pro to be able to run Final Cut Pro well. I have a five year old MacBook Pro that only struggles with a handful of niche features on Final Cut Pro, and that may have more to do with the 16 GB RAM size than the M1 Pro chip. Premiere Pro

F*** MacBook finally got this beauty

Kinda silly to be angry or aggressive over hardware. MacBooks are great machines, best in class honestly from a power and efficiency perspective. So are the Snapdragon based thinkpads. I love my AMD T14s Gen6, but it’s for specific purposes, and is inferior in every other way to my MacBook Pro. Outs

I went back to Sequoia and it felt like I just bought a new Mac

A thousand cuts of poor software quality. Yes, all those shaders seem badly implemented. But ever since going to "faster" Metal over OpenGL, which just made everything slower back then, that's been a trend anyway. But there are also all the memory leaks. I don't mean the obvious big ones like "calcu

Say hello to MacBook Neo

It's marketed at people like my kid who seek to do nothing other than Word, WhatsApp, Youtube etc and flex to their buddies that "I've got a MacBook" (she's got my old M1 Pro) - in a pretty colour as well - I do like that lime green - AirPods Max in that would be sick.
