Should be fine to plug in and see how bad it really is. Realistically fixing a first gen 11 will likely be more than buying a 9th gen or 10th gen around facebook or whatnot since price is an issue. How would you spend your USD 1,100 if you were a student (Mac a18 pro + iPad a16 or Macbook Air M5)?
Macbook Neo 512gb ($599) + second hand iPad 9th gen + Apple Pencil 1st generation ($250 on Marketplace for both) + $251 for cocaine, hookers and blow = $1100 Literally no reason to get a new iPad these days just for notes and second hand ones are worth so much less.
