Kobo clara bw. It's the same size as the kindle basic, a little bit more expensive but it doesn't have ads anywhere (even ad free kindles have ads on the home screen), and it's waterproof and has warm light (both are absent in the kindle basic).

Women pockets tend to be smaller. I personally wouldn't put my kindle paperwhite in my backpocket. Even the kindle basic and the kobo clara bw are a bit too big to put in pockets, again as a women. I think $100 is still pretty reasonable. Kindle Basic is around that price too but I prefer compact devices, so I’d still go for smaller ones as long as they fit what I need.

yeah, that is basically the same size as my current kindle from 2014, so nothing I would gain there, I want pocketability basically (noticed it today while waiting at the doctor for my appointment, I was missing reading instead of scrolling on my phone and "losing my time")

There are a variety of eink devices. There are some that resemble a kindle where you can send pdfs to it basically and read on there. There are eink android tablets where you can also do some internet/app work on them. It’s slower and a little glitchy, but you can. There are also some eink monitors.

I've gone back to buying local paper books years ago. I downloaded all my Kindle content while they were still allowing that and quit it basically. The kindle was great for travel but real books are still a better UX tbh.
