First, don’t waste your money on light foam squares. They really don’t do much. If this is going to be a permanent space, consider DIYing or buying sound panels. There are plenty of tutorials on YT, and often it’s as easy as tacking fabric to panels of Owens Corning 703 and mounting it to the walls.

Honestly, unless your set on buying new I'd avoid. Even then you could get better new. The DM 40D are complete non starter (e-waste). I second Adam Audio. I don't have personal experience with the D3V's but I do use their T7V's as my primary speakers for freelance video production and hobbyist music-making and have been extremely happy. I hear nothing but good things about the D3V for their size and price point.

If you are able to purchase speakers used and have the means to test them beforehand, I would undoubtedly recommend you go that way. 350$ is a nice budget for used monitors, you could go for Adam T5v or T7v, if you can find some Kali Audio's, even better.
