Whats best for someone setting up their first NAS doing it DIY or buying a prebuilt NAS?
Obviously the DIY is cheaper compared to buying something Unless you already have hardware this might not be true. I was in your same position and ultimately decided to buy a TerraMaster F4-425 Plus. I'm really glad I went this way. The 425 Plus is really well made, quiet, and just works.

New to home server. Running Plex on my NAS feels awesome :)
I also got an F4-425 Plus about a month ago, though I mainly use it with Jellyfin. It's a bit different from Plex, but runs smoothly.

TerraMaster F4-425 vs UGreen DXP4800GT
I went with the f4-425 plus and have been happy with it. I didn’t even try TO7, just went straight to unraid. Much easier than my old mini PC DAS setup with Proxmox. If I had similar drives, I would have gone truenas but no regrets.
