Start cheap, see if you even enjoy it. If you do, shop around for what's comfortable for you. That being said, I have been very happy with Osprey Aether 65L. I've used it on several 12 hour events that often involve rucking with 100# or more.

I use an Aether 65L for everything. Big enough for trips to Europe etc, but small enough I can use it for a weekend bag. If anything, I would go down to a 55L which would still be enough bag for most occasions. Or you get a 65-70L hyperlite that rolls down into a 40L basically when not full. Go get

I have an Osprey Aether 65L and the Naturehike you mentioned. I would much rather use the Naturehike due to the weight saving from the bag and smaller carry capacity = reduced gear. I get an equally sweaty back using either pack, I don't personally find back ventilation all that effective however ym

I’ll look into the bidet bottle camp. I like my basic hygiene haha. Yes the Aether Plus 70 in L/XL is a heavier/rugged pack with a built in daypack. He also has the Aether 65 in L/XL but that’s still 2.25kg. We love Osprey in this house. Multitool is for fishing yes, we always end up at lakes with e

I'm 6'6" ~210 and use an osprey Aether 65, fits my back well length wise but I'm a good bit lighter than you so unsure how that might change things.

I'm more of a traveller than a hiker, but I did work in outdoor gear for quite a few years. If you are set on an Osprey, the Aether 65L (a little larger than you wanted) might work for you. I don't know how well it handles mountaineering but this thread has a bit of info on it.

I think that what is worth investing is a compact (1-2L) 0°C sleeping bag, a good backpack, a light and compact tent and clothing. Other stuff like a propane burner, cooking stuff, trekking poles, hygiene stuff (look for "travel size" stuff) and sleeping mattress don't need to be super expensive to

You've described what many would consider a heavy load. 12 pounds of water, 20 pounds of gear, plus fuel and at least 1.5lb/day of food is going to easily get you into the 40lb+ range for total gear weight (which must also INCLUDE the weight of the pack itself). There are other load hauling packs li

If you think the atmos 65L is heavy then you're cooked. I've carried 5.11, Tasmanian Tiger, Osprey, Kelty, Mystery Ranch and some others. Osprey is by far one of the lightest most comfortable packs ive ever owned. I had the aether 65. Routinely carried upwards of 50+ pounds no problem. If you're hav
