What is a product or service that used to be incredibly high quality, but has now been completely ruined by corporate greed?

Digital cameras and lenses, surprisingly. Using Nikon since I'm familiar with them: A Z6 II is a $1400 fullframe camera, and it's very, very good. Go back a decade, and the closest comparison is the D810, a $4100 (inflation adjusted) camera. Even if we ignore the purely technical improvements, you g

z5ii and z6iii - real differences for photography only?

I had this question/dilemma, and ended up going with the Z5ii: Grip is very slightly different between the two. Not much in it and I doubt you’d notice after a couple of days, but there is something in it. CF Express vs SD cards. CF Express is faster, more reliable and more expensive. Also you’ll ne

Which older DSLR would be a good back up camera.

D850 is the king of Nikon DSLR. But why bother? Unless you are intending to have a bunch of F lenses, just get another Z body. If you want small, get a z6 or zf. Or even a zfc if you are considering crop sensor bodies.

Most photographers don’t need better gear, they need better taste

This is the part I strongly disagree with. The difference is keeper rate and expectations. With a modern higher end mirrorless like Sony a7v Nikon Z6III or something, even a beginner can get like a 40% keeper rate, and a moderately skilled amateur can get into like 70% rate. But if you're shooting a

Help me choose a camera by the end of this week

"Obliterates" might be overstating it. I shoot with a Z8 and Z6 III. Do I like having the extra res for cropping? Yes. Have some of my favorite pictures shot on Nikon come from the Z6 III? Also yes. Has DR been an issue with either? No. And it's kind of tiresome people keep talking like the Z6 III h

My ancestors will disagree, but perhaps it’s time to go mirrorless

note that Mirrorless cameras lack one important feature for flash shooters. There is no infrared based autofocus between flash and camera since autofocus is performed on sensor. Infrared is separate sensor located on the mirror in DSLR's. I suggest you buy a used Nikon Z6. They go for cheap, otherwi

Nikon 2026

All speculation. I doubt we will get a z7iii. Nikon expected the z7 and z6 to sell equally well, but the z6 line consistently performed better than the 7 through the first two generations. Given the price difference that will have been disappointing. With the z8/9, they took the more 'traditional' (

I bought Sony a7iv and kind of regretting it

Switching systems back and forth never pays off. I did it once and went from D800’s to almost all-in on Micro 4/3rds and at one point had an E-M1X (kept the D800’s for studio jobs). It’s a competent system, and a perfectly comfortable body, and can handle just about any Commerical work, but yeah the

Z5II, Z6III or Z7II

I would go Z6iii. Yea the 5ii is a very good value, but the 6iii has a better viewfinder, battery life, the little info window on top which I’ve found mandatory for my cameras, higher shutter speed. Etc. check it out here: https://photographylife.com/comparison/nikon-z5-ii-vs-nikon-z6-iii
