Oakley Kitchen Sink is huge!
I really don't. If you look at most college/work/commute backpacks, they're right around 30 L. Yeah, the ubiquitous TNF Borealis and my beloved Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack are on the under side, but still. My college backpack was like 35 L and my favorite hiking pack is right at 34. Lots of ent

Are Herschel backpacks roughly the same quality as they used to be?
Not really - Even TNF Backpacks now are much thinner and floppier compared to the 2016 models (TNF Surge or Recon) Blame enshittification "Enshittification" is the process where online platforms degrade in quality over time to maximize profits. Coined by author Cory Doctorow, it describes a three-st

As an engineer
I use The North Face I put all those in TNF-Surge, perfect one that provides enough space for my big laptops.

North Face Surge review
I just received the TNF Surge to test because I need a replacement for my TNF Surge I bought 9 years ago. The Surge I have for 9 years is a beast, I love the extra handle and the fastening straps on the side. I can easily carry more than 31L and have been using it as an EDC bag but also to travel. I

Work+lunch+gym = possible?
I'm distinguishing between the sleeve within the main compartment of the 2DAP and something like the TNF Surge where there's a different zipper and it has depth whether you put a computer in it or not. I found it much harder to use that backpack for odd-shaped stuff, like my lunch.

Looking for ideal all in one gym backpack
How big is that in liters? Anyway, I have two candidates for you. The Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack - it doesn't meet a lot of your bullet points but I have one, I love it, and I think that in terms of actual function it would be great. And the Osprey Metron 34, which is a lot closer to your bull

Bellevue Square (Seattle suburb) store experience
Thanks everyone for the kind words! I wasn’t super upset, just a bit disappointed by the cold reception, especially since it was my first time at the store and I was honestly excited to see they had a Bellevue location. Normally I don’t mind whether sales associates are friendly or not if I already

The North Face Surge: A Disappointing Experience for a Daily Commuter

Does the Shape of a Backpack Affect How Much You Can Actually Pack?
Yup! I didn't get along with my TNF Surge partly because it has a fairly firm division between the laptop compartment, that has a zipper of its own, and the main compartment. Nominally it has more volume than my Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack but between the laptop accommodation being a sleeve ins

North Face Surge review
I have been using this version https://backpackies.com/s/nfsg.png since 2020. It definitely gets hot. The padded back panel provides little ventilation, soaks up sweat, and stays damp, leaving my back completely soaked. To cope with this, I sometimes wear the bag on my chest to let my back breathe,
