Plex streams fine but the libraries take forever to load on every device, any advice on how to fix?
i always kept the plex data folder on a ssd and currently a NVMe drive now and never really saw any lag for the interface or when opening the media compared to when it was installed on spinning drives. Try doing a database clean up and increasing the DB cache size a little (Mine is currently at 256)

PSA: The UNAS 2's "2.5GbE" NIC is a USB-attached Realtek running a 3-year-old driver, and mine just stopped negotiating gigabit
You genuinely might want to avoid Synology as well, UGreen would be my recommendation. Synology reversed their ban of third party HDD/SSD drives recently (M.2 drives are still banned) except the language they used in the press release implies they're DEFINITELY going to try again in the future. Also

[System Agnostic] Foundry VTT on a Synology DS423+
I’ve run it on a DS224+ with only 4GB of RAM and it ran fine. The server has very little demand for computing power. It’s the clients (via a web browser) that needs the “oomph”. I wasn’t a savvy Docker user back then and had some trouble getting a network volume to mount to that Docker Container, so

My simple and compact DYI NAS - fanless Mini PC (TDP 6 watts), internal 1 TB SSD, External 4 TB USB 3.2 Hard drive, OMV 8.1, on 1GB home Ethernet network. Works for me!
I can’t tell from your comment if the 1TB drive is backed up somewhere, or the contents of it are itself a backup, but if it’s not backed up, I would certainly add that. As for costs of self hosting vs cloud storage, it really depends on where in the world you live. In Northern Europe, with electric

Autobackup between NAS's
I'm happy I could help! If you keep both your NAS devices up and running and online, yes, you can access them whenever you want from wherever. A strong password, 2FA and you shouldn't have to worry about anything. The DS224+ might seem like a good model, but it has an outdated Intel Celeron J4125 CP

Plex streams fine but the libraries take forever to load on every device, any advice on how to fix?
I had the DS224+ and I tried everything I could think of. In the end, I gave up and decided to build an unraid machine. The difference is night and day. It's insane. Plex loads virtually instantly, as does Overseerr. I think the CPU and SSD cache have the biggest impact, even though you'd think the

Appsmith Docker Synology YAML
The big problem seems to be the lack of AVX support on my Synology DS224+.

NAS Suggestion
I guess it depends on your problem space. I don't want/need another photo browser. I use iCloud / Apple Photos for that. I just want a reliable backup of my (family's) photos in an automated fashion, and for that, PhotoSync is more than enough. I don't see any situation in the future where I would b

Is Synology still the best choice if you want something that just works?
I personally am not an expert , but can mostly follow YT tutorials to get things working . I bought a DS220j as my first NAS in 2021. At the time it was to setup a doorbell with surveillance... I used it for 3 or 4 months and it worked well. I then got a dedicated DVR system setup and packed the NAS

trying to figure out the best cloud storage for 2026, what do you actually use?
I avoid Synology Drive. I had an idea, where I’d separate my media from my backups, so I purchased a DS224+, populated it with 2x6TB Synology HAT-3300 drives (priced similarly to WD Red Plus at the time), and setup the NAS with Synology Drive, Synology Photos and HyperBackup. After setting up snapsh
