I would avoid Sonos as they are still stuck in software issues since more than 1 year. And they have hardware issues too with the paint flaking from the grids. Anyway it doesn’t support properly DTS which is a no go if you wanna play Blu ray discs except with spexific and more expensive players whic

“Lifestyle” audio systems with active speakers are self-contained, easier to integrate, and generally deliver better performance/ features/ value for the typical layperson. Building a high-performance, high-value system using passive speakers and discrete components is complex at any price, and espe

What country are you located in? Whats your budget? Unless you’re an expert at system building, I would absolutely avoid shopping for used separates for this intended use case. There are plenty of easy to use, inexpensive smart speakers that would work for music. Unfortunately, they don’t readily in

Thanks for reaching out. I recently had a similar discussion with one of your colleagues, and I genuinely appreciate your almost scientific approach to testing audio equipment. From that perspective, I sometimes feel the methodology doesn’t fully reflect real-world music listening conditions. Metric

What you're experiencing is pretty normal. Blu Ray audio will be as close to reference levels as possible when they are doing the sound mixing. The same can not be said for things like streaming as they will use compression to help keep the bit-rate manageable. Compression will have the effect of ma

The Ray is not that good you are not missing out on anything. The Beam Gen 2 is a significant audio upgrade over the Streambar to be fair it does cost significantly more. https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/tools/compare/roku-streambar-vs-sonos-beam-gen-2/19666/28293 Using the Streambar you are missing

Since you have a Samsung tv, I would go the Q990 route to take advantage of the Q-Symphony feature. And if you're watching any DVDs or blu rays, you won't have to fiddle with audio conversions for getting the best sound out of the Sonos. I think both systems will likely sound about the same for regu

The Klipsch 200 or Samsung HW-S60D are your best options in your price range. The Klipsch will run you about $350 (on sale) and the Samsung $280. Klipsch is a 3.1.2 system, Samsung is a 5.0 system. If you need one a little less expensive, I'd go with 1. Sonos Ray 2. Samsung HW-S50B 3. Bose TV Speake

Very nice! I just started to collect Blu-rays again. This time UHD. Where did you buy the discs? I‘m especially interested in Interstellar, Blade Runner 2049 and Das fünfte Element. Was there any multi-buy offer? Thanks and cheers! PS: nubert.de has some very good and affordable (passive) speakers.
