I don't think its over counting steps because while I do counting tests manually it performs exceptionally good. I did all the way from 100 steps to 2000 steps in 3 days. I have a GW8 and record my surf sessions with the watch's run activity. I then export the activity to gpx with the Samsung Health app and upload the gpx file surf-tracker.com. Works beautifully and it's the best option I have found.
