What would you do - if you have to check a bag?
Yeah I’ve done it multiple times now - and the biggest reason is I am more balanced if I have to pick them both up. I use a nomatic backpack or purse that’s easy to crossbody if I’m doing the two carryons. I have a 4 wheel travel pro as my primary carry on I use all the time. Then we have a variety

Backpack recommendation suited for hiking, and that I can use as my main luggage?
I have the nomatic travel bag 30l, I like that's it's a bit over engineered and I like the strap system, converts between a hand carried duffle or a backpack. My brother likes his bellroy lite travel pack 30l, it's a nicer backpack than my nomatic, which does feel really boxy on my back. My buddy ha

Train driver/engineer searching for a new backpack
I think one of the Nomatic travel bags will work for you. https://www.nomatic.com/collections/travel-bags/products/the-nomatic-travel-pack The 20L version expands to 30L. Lots of pockets. Not sure if it has the laptop and iPad sleeve like their 20L regular Backpack (which expands to 24L). I love my

thinking about using a duffle bag as my carry on.. good idea?
Have a look at the 30- or 40- litre travel bag from Nomatic. Can be carried as a suitcase, backpack or from the shoulder. Maybe it isn't exactly what you are looking for, but the bags are carry-on sized and fit in most overhead bins. When I travel with one bag, this is the one I use.

High end bag packs that is compatible with a 16 inch laptop
Very happy carrying my 16” MacBook Pro, 12.9 iPad Pro, and Rhodia notepad in the admin pocket of my Nomatic Travel Pack. Lots of space left in the main compartment and front pocket: lots of smaller pockets inside them to keep things in place. Comfortable straps, side handles on both sides, holds wat

Help me choose an under‑seat “plane to boardroom” backpack (CRO, heavy biz travel)
Look into black ember, they have a similar vibe to what you're describing. Also I think the Aer travel pack 3 is too big for under seat. I have an Aer city pack, the small one, it's supposedly only 16l but it fits about as much as other bags that I have that are rated at 25l and it's the perfect max

Help me choose an under‑seat “plane to boardroom” backpack (CRO, heavy biz travel)
I just finished my first trip last week with my Nomatic 20L and was pretty happy with it, love that it stands up on it's own if I set it on the floor/table/desk. While it does have the ability to sit on a roller bag, it can only do it on it's side, which I don't love. I'm going to experiment with a

Recommendations - For frequent travel.
For a VERY similar load out I just ordered a Nomatic 20l. It has a good solid back panel to protect the Mac and iPad. There's a bunch of pockets and out can expand to a 30l capacity too

Backpack for a digital nomad
Not saying it is perfect but maybe check out the Nomatic Travel Pack. It has expansion from 20L(EDC) to 30L(travel) and it has gotten the job done for me and my digital nomad needs. It can be a bit rigid but i can’t seem to part with it. You could also check out tropicfeel’s Hive plus the SEE cube.

Business Travel Bag Option
Absolutely love my Nomatic Navigator 32. Except when I don't. It's nearly perfect for me in a similar situation as you especially with the weight I carry... My only dislike is the lack of strap management. I also have a 20L Travel pack from them and it's nearly perfect. Just a tad small. If I could
