I don't believe it's quite so black and white as some suggest. At the lower end of the market, powered speakers are unbeatable in terms of price vs performance. You just can't buy a good stereo amp and a pair of passive speakers new for $150 that's really going to challenge a pair of Edifier R1280T

I’m a big fan of KEF Wireless speaker systems. You only need source components! NO NEED to buy amps or preamps! Do you have/want a turntable? Had both R3 and LS50. To get the best out of R3, you need a serious amp way more than Wii M Ultra will provide. I have test amps between $900 all the way to $8000 for reference. Given this, LS50 Wireless II would he the best choice imo. Due to amp requirements for R3 to sound good. LS50 wireless off
