Try the HHKB Studio. Or one of the TEX boards. Edit: I love getting downvotes for suggesting reasonable (and significant improvements) replacements for Lenovo’s old offerings. Is it a price issue? Good keyboards cost money.

They are two completely different boards, the HHKB Studio is MX Switches and the Type-S is dome switches. The Studio is basically like any other MX keyboard on the market with some variations. If you want the real HHKB feel you would get the Type-S.

There's no objectively correct answer here, but chances are that you became interested in the HHKB because of Topre. If you're primarily after the layout, there are cheaper ways to try it out. That said, I also picked up the Studio (after a Pro 2 and a Hybrid), and I love it.

Own all hhkb. Typing on the studio feels less fatiguing than topre. More silenced. Also have the new sliders and mouse, but I've rarely used those. I have both, and to be honest, I don’t use the gesture panels on the Studio very much. If I had to recommend one for now, I’d say go with the Hybrid Type-S. The Hybrid Type-S uses Topre, which are super comfortable for long typing sessions. It’s also a great way to get used to the HHKB layout. On to
