Okay, I have a silly question that's plagued me for years: how do I prevent this smudge from appearing every time I wear mascara?
Isehan Kiss Me Heroine Make is probably the most-recommended one. Just make sure you've got either an Asian mascara remover or cleansing balm, because American and Euro brands won't remove it easily. (I like the Heimish balm, reasonably priced for how well it works.)

seeking a non-waterproof mascara that can hold a damn curl
As someone who has tried to find a non-waterproof mascara that holds curl, and I mean I’ve tried a ton, both luxury and drugstore, I haven’t found anything that’s held my curl besides waterproof. Instead, I just buy L’Oréal Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. Makes it easy to take off, I get to use water

The KissMe Heroine Make brown mascaras are excellent if you can get your hands on them. They’re properly brown, I have fair hair and lashes and it looks so good on.

Isehan Kiss Me Heroine Make (newest is Lash Hype), you will likely need the remover for half of their line, it is that strong.
