I know its hindsight, but the owner would hv been able to see exactly when the dog escaped, could hv made the sitter aware that they know and most importantly would hv known within 50ft of where the dog was. Please get your dogs tracker collars

Even better, get a Fi collar. AirTags require the dog to be near someone with an iPhone, Fi is satellite real time tracking. It’s obviously more expensive but if your girl is a problem runner it sounds like you need it.

Is it possible she broke out of your house and not someone broke in? Or are you thinking the neighbors dogs broke in? If she’s free roaming, I’m willing to bet no one is going to break in and go inside after seeing a dog as big as them, more so if she’s protective as you noted… she’s going to bark.

Thats my opinion as well. Your dog was already gone the day the sitter was non responsive to you. Not to mention, who TF walks a dog at 9:48pm on July 4th while fireworks are happening?? Edit: a lot of people are recommending shock collars and electric fences. This is against the rules for this sub. Dogs that run are not deterred by a shock collar or electric fence and it can make them less likely to come back once they do escape. I too have a runner. Here is what has helped in case

I will forever recommend Fi collars. They only do GPS though and quite honestly, if your dogs are going through the effort to get out of a physical fence, they’re not going to care about a wireless fence. All tracking collars will have their pros and cons. Fi is not as quick to report a dog out of b
