First Record Player!!
I am almost a 100 vinyls deep It was time to replace the novelty toy with a real turntable awhile ago :) That mustang thing has a cheap ceramic cartridge, a cheap motor, a tiny cheap speaker :( Starter setup with a good MM moving magnet cartridge, a good diamond tip stylus, plus an RIAA phono preamp

Need help choosing what player to ask for
Neither of those cheap brands are worth spending any money on. Better Fluance RT81 $255 on sale from $299 with built in phono preamp. Plus Starter powered speakers: For a large room or a medium size room if you have room for them, large 6.5" mid bass driver Dayton Classic B65A $159. For a medium siz

New jbl turntable
That head shell is already more than good enough for that turntable, a different head shell is not going to make any difference and if you get one that is not the correct angle then it won't have the correct cartridge alignment. Save your money for a pair of speakers so you can have stereo separatio

Best option for a 13yr old
Pass on the AT-LP60 that had some issues when it was new and can have even more issues used. If you are going to buy a used bare minimum AT-LP60 then at least get the new X version AT-LP60X that fixed the issues that the older AT-LP60 had. The better Denon DP-300F $249 on sale upgrades to an adjusta

best phonograph what should I actually be looking for as a beginner?
Yep, took the advice of this sub and upgraded from a Crosely 6-in-1. Current setup is the Fluance RT-82, Fosi Box X5, Dayton Classic B65A powered book shelf speakers, and a Sony SA-WMPS2 subwoofer. Couldn't be happier and I know I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of Hi-Fi audio. My next upd

Daughter’s first setup
FYI, if you are looking at Edifier R1700BTs then they are angled back for desktop use to aim up at your ears while you are seated at your desk. For room listening at eat height you would need to prop them forward or place them lower to the ground so they don't aim over your head. Starter powered spe

Need help finding a starter turntable that isn’t gonna break the bank (under 200 dollars). I don’t really know much of anything about them but assume I would need an amp and speakersaswell?
$200 is bare minimum and often won't have a good or adjustable tonearm. Starter setup... Entry level turntables with adjustable tonearms: Manual with cue lever and auto stop https://www.fluance.com/rt80-high-fidelity-vinyl-turntable-record-player-with-premium-cartridge-diamond-needle Automatic https

Getting into records while on a budget....
You can get an Audio-Technica 60 ($199 on Amazon) and some basic powered speakers, for instance the Dayton Classic B65a ($159 on Amazon), you can get a perfectly serviceable setup for $360 that won't eat your records. That's truly the basement bottom budget starting point for decent quality and reas

Do I need a turntable mat (or any other accessories)?
You're welcome. You can probably start with the basic low cost computer speakers. Then to get good sound from the turntable, get at least a pair of decent compact to full size starter powered speakers when you can... For a large room or a medium size room if you have room for them, large 6.5" mid ba

Is the Audio technica lp60x record player good for starting
The basic AT-LP60X is the bare minimum and lacks adjustments. Ideally get at least a starter turntable with an adjustable tonearm: Manual with cue lever and auto stop Fluance RT80 $249. Automatic Denon DP-300F $249. Or if you can, get the better AT-LP120X $315 that was originally $449 that has a bet
