The Audeze LCD-GX is currently the best gaming headset you can get, at least as far as I'm aware. A great and much more budget friendly option is Beyerdynamic MMX-300 Pro.

The DT770 is a fantastic option, but what you are probably looking for is the MMX 300! It is a DT 770 but with an attached microphone and detachable cable. (It uses the same drivers). No sound card or amp is required either. I personally have a pair of 2nd gens but they came out with the MMX 300 pro

I use the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Pro and the sound is perfect. The only cons are 1) you need a good sound card and 2) they are only starting to develop wireless options. Aside from these two I would always recommend Beyerdynamics based on my experiences.
