Is subwoofer necessary?
As someone who just got a sub to pair with my Audioengine A2+, I'd say its very much worth it to get one for a stereo set up. Music now sounds much more complete and fuller and more real. Studio Monitor Purchase/Upgrade Help
Pull them out another 6" and see what happens to the sound. Help with Desk Upgrade
Audioengine A2+ are very good speakers for a desk. They are quite small and the sound is pretty good. I have the A1 and I added a S6 subwoofer and I've been pretty happy with them for the last few years.
