I don't think it can ever break into the high end until the underlying tech is commoditized. The idea your $18,000 watch can be outdated every 12 months kills its ability to be high end. A watch should be timeless, something you can own for decades. Until the tech is commoditized that can't happen.

Mix and match at the time of purchase I think only Apple does. Argos, Very, Amazon and JL usually sell “safer” combinations with normal silicone bands.

Unpopular opinion, but it is kind of dumb to buy the Hermes version when a new apple watch comes out every year. The Hermes version still uses the same tech as the cheaper versions. What a waste of money.
