You can already buy shuttle pcs with (probably) those specs for $400-$600 (have a look at gmktec). For a console (which Valves sells it like) you will always expect lower prices than equivalent pc prices (for obvious reasons). You can literally get a M4 mac mini with 16 GB shared RAM for $600. $500 for m4 Mac mini with edu discount and $150 for 27” 4K monitor. This isn’t a good deal.

There's other options but we don't need to move goalposts since I never claimed otherwise. You could also just get an m4 Mac mini for $500 or less right now if the form factor is important but of course performance will be worse for gaming.

The profit margin for M4 Mini is still huge. Apple TVs sell for $149 so Apple could easily half the M5 Mini price and still make a profit at $299.

I would get the new m4 mac mini (only $600) but it has TERRIBLE gaming support. If only Apple/Valve would make gaming a possibility for mac...

I was planning on upgrading from 3090 to 5090 gpu but now that my m4 Mini died I’m deciding between 5090 and a MacBook / studio. The mini was my access to Mac OS and I was finally getting into it so I’m stuck. They are both expensive and I’m worried about prices spiking even more!

You will need 24GB/512 GB Mini to manually cut code... can't be done for $600 I just installed local Ollama .. llama3 8B model to play with works great on M1 Mini 16GB/512.. But to get serious with local AI I will need at least 64GB /1TB M4 Mini.. very expensive with Macs . Local AI is game changer
