M4 Mac Mini on Amazon is $499. Add the UNAS Pro for another $499. You've got a more powerful compute module with more bays available in a rack-mount setup for less than the Synology RS822+.

Is it realistic to use a Mac mini as a “portable” (carrying in a backpack + daily plugging/unplugging)?
I mean that many plug/unplug actions is less than ideal, but I can't say if it will actively harm the mini. If it's shut down each time I don't think there would be any risk involved. One idea would may be to never actually unplug the power cable from the mini (maybe get a very short one), and then

My Mac M1 sucks for Editing
https://t2m.co/SiliconMacBuyersGuide That budget? What I wrote stands (and I wrote the article for this subreddit) “I want the cheapest desktop – but it needs to be functional.” MacMini M4 (not Pro) @ $1,399• M4 Stock 10-Core• 32GB RAM• 1TB SSD• Three Thunderbolt Ports Seriously, don’t buy the botto

Apple’s M5 chip launches this fall, and these new products get it first
updated from a 2014 retina mbp to a m4 mini. sure, it’s faster but not insanely faster. and maybe that’s a statement on how good longevity on the macs is. i still use my old 2011 mbp, for music and stuff.

Kuo: Apple to release cheaper MacBook powered by iPhone processor
I was surprised when I found out the M1 in my MacBook was about on par, and sometimes surpassed, my Ryzen 5 3600. My M4 mini for CPU tasks blows every other computer I have out of the water.

My Mac M1 sucks for Editing
Dont get a fucking laptop if you are trying to maximize your budget. Get a Mac M4 Mini and spec it out with 32GB of RAM and the biggest SSD you can afford and go on with your life. The M4 eats up 4k 120FPS h.265 footage like it is nothing

is this a good macbook for producing on?
I know it will technically work-ish, but I’d much rather use the money toward at least an M chip Mac. The M4 Mac mini is an absolute powerhouse for $599 ($499 for students).
