What’s that one cheap staple piece of gear you never plan to upgrade or replace?

For me it’s the AKG K240 Studio Headphone. I bought it as first gear in 2003 and it was my fellow companion until the plastic started to die down. I replaced it with Beyerdynamic DT707Pro and am now stuck with Neumann NDH30. It may not be the cheapest gear, but the kind of gear I was most dependent

I mix at home, I don't have much technical knowledge, and I need to buy something to mix better (or that's what I think?)

Honestly for your situation I’d stick with headphones for now. You can absolutely mix on them. If you don’t even have a dedicated room, much less an acoustically treated one monitors are probably going to create more problems for you than they’ll solve. Lucky for you the AKG K240’s are currently on

Today my career in music production begins. I worked hard and achieved it, I finally have my first audio interface 😄

Headphones are always a tough recommendation due to how individual tastes can vary, as well as particular needs. If your primary concern is mixing and don't need to worry about bleed, AKG K240s are well-liked. I've used my open-back Sennheiser HD6xx here and there, but haven't really dug in to a mix

Headphones for Heavy Metal Guitar

I’ve used AKG K240 Studio headphones for a few years. I like them. I use them plugged into my audio interface, Modeler/FX unit and amp for everything from practicing to recording to mixing. They are generally priced in the $76 to $100 CAD range. Shop around.

Mixing headphones under 200?

AKG K240 Studio and be done with it for $50. They were used throughout the 70s for all of the classic albums and they'll give you as close to monitors as you can get in headphones.

Almost done with my spy/hitman like menu theme for small indie game. Synths and orchestral, any advice ?

Good to know! And what headphones would you recommend for more universal mastering? Right now I have the budget AKG K240 Studiothey're overall fine for listening to music, but probably not great for mastering.

I'm setting up a budget recording studio and i'm wondering which speakers to buy

At that budget? AKG K240 Studio (or the slightly better and newer K240 Mk II) headphones + the free version of Acustica Audio's Sienna. Normally I would recommend Slate VSX but those are out of your price range.
