Just picked up DT 990 Pro 250 ohms, with a Douk Audio U3 amp and it’s 10/10. Upgraded from wireless steel series arctis pros and it’s a night and day difference of sound.

The issue is the weak headphone out on the Katana. 250 Ohms studio headphones are fine, but the Katana headphone output is not necessarily designed to drive them loudly. For Katana practice, 32–80 Ohms headphones are usually the easier match. So use a headphone amp after the Katana’s Phones/Rec Out.

Look at the DT 990 Pro X or DT 900 Pro X over the legacy DT 990 Pro models. And check out Beyerdyamics Headphone Lab calibration software which is free to use with their headphones. This can improve the sound signature of the headphones even more for mixing.

beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X. Best Headphones I’ve ever heard. You’ll need a DAC and headphone amplifier to get best results. But bass, middle and especially the heights are so beautiful. They are open back and the soundstage is phenomenal. If you’re more the closed back type go with the 770 Pro X.
