In general, Jansport and osprey are about as well built as I have ever seen. The North Face borealis is the best school backpack I have ever used. I wreck stuff just by owning it.

from all my recent research... the north face borealis and gregory terros (20 or 25 liter) seem quite good and are around the 100 dollar price point.
