The Surface Pro 7 (not 7+) is end of life as of October 2025. That alone is disqualifying in my book since it means no driver and firmware updates, including security updates. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/surface-driver-firmware-lifecycle-support

Don't hold out any hope for the AR coating, consumer Surfaces have been without any AR coating since at least the surface pro 7 (or even earlier) and microsoft has never bothered with that. Pretty confounding decision considering the surface is meant to inspire other windows pc maker (show them how

I have an older Surface Pro 7 but it definitely does well for note taking and Microsoft Office apps. The only complaint I have is it's battery life but it's an older device and closer and closer to being obsolete. I don't have experience with the newer ones but I can't imagine the newest (or last ye

Regarding legit websites, I've bought a refurbished laptop from ExtremePC before: Computers & Tablets - Laptops - Refurbished Laptops - Extremepc Online Store They have physical stores as well, which I popped into. The laptop we bought is still going strong after 3 years, though our price range was

I have gotten it to work on a Microsoft Surface Pro 7, albeit with some minor stuttering every now and then. Still very playable for the most part. The game is literally over 20 years old and now runs on phones; insane to think that this game that I used to use as a gaming benchmark is now running o

For my 5 Yr old Surface Pro 7+ the battery would easily work for 3 to 4 hours but... Microsoft locked the power profiles down in firmware to really aggressive power saving when not plugged in. This means the processor is throttled. It can run Ableton with a few synth layers but that's about it. It's

I use a Windows Surface Pro tablet. A tablet is far easier than a laptop and can fit on a music stand or holder attached to a keyboard. Using Windows means I can use any of my VST collection with no limitations. Ableton works for electronic music based on audio and midi clips. Its not great for othe

Stick with what you've got. PXPlay performs much better than the Sony remote play software on the Portal. I prefer my old Microsoft Surface Pro 7 with a DualSense over my Portal when playing remotely.

If you are triggering lots of pre recorded audio or midi clips, Ableton is well suited. If you are playing lots of different songs and want to change patches and VST instruments, Ableton is far from ideal. It has no native set list / song management and is resource hungry. Virtual instruments and ot

It's too late. It's just too late. I was perfectly happy with Windows 10 on my Microsoft Surface Pro 7. And then you stop supporting Windows 10. But I can't put Windows 11 on a perfectly good Microsoft Surface Pro 7. So now, it's running mint Linux. And I'll never go back.
