Best laptop under €700?
The m1 MacBook Air can be got for under €700 which is a serious enough laptop for the money. I don’t use Mac though I use windows, you’d get a nice X13 series Lenovo Thinkpad tough for that money either. Fairly robust as well as I use mine out in the field.

Why is X13 less popular than T14?
You trade a little functionality for portability. Namely, there is no ethernet port. However, they are really cool! I got my X13 gen 4 in today and it's great.

What’s your favourite way to save money that lots of people don’t know about?
Yep 100%. I bought a well spec'd Lenovo x13 for ~£250 as a business refurb. Still had 2 years left of on-site warranty when it arrived.

I’m starting to resent my T480
As a student, you might as well come back to MacBook - brand-new Neo is 850 CAD with education discount, or you should be able to find older M chip Air models under 1000 CAD second hand. You get Microsoft Office IIRC, good battery life, good bright screen (some ThinkPads model configs still somewhat

Thinkpad T14S Gen 5 - Why aren't there a lot of reviews for this version?
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T14s-Gen-5-laptop-review-The-premium-T-ThinkPad-with-Intel-Core-Ultra.866472.0.html 165H should be better, but less battery life (comparable to Zen 3 IIRC?). Not sure how it cools the 165H. T14s positioning is horrible in recent gens, especially Intel, a

Is this good for 299€ (345$)?
No. Would not buy an 8th Gen CPU anymore. For that price you're already in the ballpark for T14 Gen 2s, X13 Gen 2s, etc. T480 is an overrated meme.

I get tired of all the linux jerking on this subreddit so heres windows 11 working perfectly well on a 15 year old thinkpad x201!
The 11th gen i5 of my X13 outperforms the 9th gen i9 of my X1 Xtreme (in single core performance).

I really love the idea of owning thinkpad instead of a mac. The only thing stopping me is the sound quality.
Get a recent one. X1 Carbon Gen 13has fabulous speakers. In comparison older ones (2018 Carbon Gen 6) are way worse to even crappy (X200 from like 2008). The X13 Gen 2 (2021???) has okay-ish (compared to 2015 13.3 MBP and 2015 12 MB). Edit: well, since you have a Mac and you're thinking about a new

Cool club can I join?
Oh wow that's a gorgeous one congratulations. I've got the X13 2-in-1 gen 5 which is all black, but this one with the oled must be a pleasure to use!

X210Ai is a new motherboard designed to upgrade X201/X200
Mind that storage, RAM and battery are not included. Once you add these components, you can get a brand-new X13 Gen 6 with better specs for cheaper. If I would still be working at a company where I can just order whatever I want on the company bill, I would totally get one. But when money isn't free
