Tell me if I'm heading in the right direction with understanding amplifier sound differences...a beginner here...

Tube amps can be class A for single ended triode, but can also be arranged as a normal push pull and biased A/B for efficiency. Most of the "tube sound" comes from lack of negative feedback and the output transformer which accentuates electromechanical resonances in the speaker system due to lack of

Looking to start mixing in surround

JBL 305/308s are a cheap powered speaker that are fairly popular amongst post professionals. Do you already have a stereo set of monitors? I would recommend getting a third matching one for your center channel, your surrounds could be different models but they should match each other. The RME was a

Plz dont send me to shittybattlestations. Work in progress.

Im working on getting smaller ones, but they do sound very nice. They're JBL 305p MkII which are near field studio monitors, but they take up too much desk space - which is only a 48"x24" butcherblock.

Gifted my boyfriend a DDJ-FLX4, need speaker recommendations

I'd recommend a pair of 5-6 inch studio monitors - you will only need the monitors (no separate amp needed). Some popular not too expensive models: - JBL 305 or 306P - Kali LP5 or LP6 - Yamaha HS5 - KRK Rokit 5 Note that he'll also need a pair of headphones as well. Senheisser HD25 are a popular mod

Never knew what I was missing

The Spica TC50, in perfect working order, are good speakers. But, they must be around 30 to 40 years old. Perhaps it is time to invest in a newer set of speakers. Maybe start with a set of inexpensive near field speakers for your computer. The JBL 305p MKII sound great for their cost.

Neighbor keeps complaining about my setup being too loud even at low volume

I’m using cheap monitor speakers and I compared them against my budget headphone rig. I’ll probably never pull out my headphone amp again. Once you have your room treated it’s not even close. That’s the reason why everybody still buys JBL 305-308s. No contest

Mixing metal: better headphones or studio monitors?

BOTH! Ideally, you should be able to validate your mixes on open-back headphones with a sufficiently flat frequency response for reliability AND on decent studio monitors. If your room isn't acoustically treated, headphones are really useful for choosing and adjusting reverbs, room EQ, plate springs

audio rabbit hole is the most expensive detour in the desk setup game, glad you made it out alive. jbl 305p mkii + ws 6.2 combo is a legit jump over most prosumer setups. the 305s have that slightly scooped mid that people either love or tolerate, but paired with a real sub it fills in the low end n
