One of the cheapest routers right now is the EDUP RT2980 AX3000 which has a slightly newer revision of the same CPU with half the ram of the Cudy TR3000. Recommendations for a rarely used travel router with tethering
I would steer away from Opal. My recommendation would be to head to eBay or other pre used marketplace and find a Beryl ( first edition) Beryl AX from GL.inet or look at TP Link 1502. These are close in price to where you want to be, but are better than opal. Another alternative is Cudy TR3000 which

Just saw this on FB Market and curious what you all think here. I already have a Beryl 7, but the cooling system has me curious.
You can pretty much turn off the fan on routers and it will work just fine, just a bit hot. My Cudy TR3000 (basically a Beryl AX w/o a fan) runs as an extra AP at my house when I'm not travelling and it hasn't die yet.

Why UTR?
I have a Cudy TR3000 and it is a great little device. Mind you, I haven’t tried the UTR yet, but seeing the price difference where I live I am not soon getting the UTR. It is a sexy thing though :) Edit: I got it for €50,- including a small 5 port switch

Any suggestions for a travel router?
TP-Link TL-WR1502X is decent. Only issue is it comes with USB 2.0. So I recently went with Cudy TR3000 for about 6k, comes with a USB 3.0 port and can run OpenWRT too.

Hardware/router for openwrt with UniFi APs
