Backup recommendations Mixing Headphones for cheap?
Sony MDR7506s, they look nice, but pretty pricey. They are $100 usd, decent professional headphones don't really come much cheaper than that. To record vocals, you may want to use closed headphones, so among those listed ATH m30x would be the better choice. Honestly for your situation I’d stick with headphones for now. You can absolutely mix on them. If you don’t even have a dedicated room, much less an acoustically treated one monitors are probably going to create more problems for you than they’ll solve. Lucky for you the AKG K240’s are currently on

Headphone volume and EQ questions
I’m using akg k240s which by the ohms might be the same as you. For comfortable loud volume is about 3/4, at max it’s a bit too loud. If you want to add more to the set get the AKG K240 MKII (Silver) or the K240 Studio(Gold) headphones. The anime has the silver ones but I see some media with the gold ones, though tI don't remember if they are official or not.

What’s that one cheap staple piece of gear you never plan to upgrade or replace?
For me it’s the AKG K240 Studio Headphone. I bought it as first gear in 2003 and it was my fellow companion until the plastic started to die down. I replaced it with Beyerdynamic DT707Pro and am now stuck with Neumann NDH30. It may not be the cheapest gear, but the kind of gear I was most dependent

Gen 3 Katana 50 with Bass?
Too few watts and open back speaker make it poopy. You can get a decent tone in good closed ear headphones but its not great even on a 100w with a sealed external cab! AKG K240 Studio are nice for bass. Cheap used.
